What to do if One Player Disconnects or Crashes During a Match
As we all know, sometimes the hamsters running through the tubes of the internet gets stuck, or the little hamster inside your PC falls off it’s wheel, interrupting your game with disconnects and crashes. Since BASH is a Digital League, it’s inevitable that something is going to happen that will ruin a match. To keep the impact of such an unfortunate event to a minimum the following guidelines have been established as the procedure for all BASH coaches to follow in the event of a crash or disconnect ruining their game. The steps to the procedure are as follows…
- If both coaches agree the match can be replayed from the beginning, otherwise continue to step 2
- Coaches must agree on what the score was before the crash or disconnect
- Coaches must agree on what turn number they were on before the crash or disconnect
- If coaches agree on 2 & 3 then the match is started again and brought to the state it was before the crash or disconnect in a make-up game, otherwise continue to step 6
- Contact the league commissioner via email with alterations needed to make the makeup game and the reported game match
- If the coaches cannot agree on 2 & 3 then both coaches contact the BASH League Commissioner for resolution
- The BASH League Commissioner makes a decision on to what the score and turn number was and coaches play the make-up game as in step 4
- If one coach refuses to play the make-up game then the challenge rules may be used, this does not count against the challenging coaches number of challenges for that two-week period
Step 1: The Replay Option
Step 1 is the simplest of all the options for all involved. Going through the other steps in the process takes a bit more time and communication, and this step allows both coaches to avoid that if the want to. If both coaches agree to replay the game then no other steps in the process are done and the coaches start a new game against each other from the beginning and completely ignoring anything that happened in the game in which the crash or disconnect occurred.
Steps 2, 3, 4, and 5: The Make-up Option
If both coaches do not agree to replay the game then a make-up game is done instead. The object of this method is to try to replicate the results of the match where the crash or disconnect occurred as best as possible. The coaches need to agree on two points, the score of the game and a turn number the game was on at the time of the crash or disconnect. The score is self-explanatory, simply come to an agreement about how many points each team had before the game was cut short. Next both coaches need to agree on what the turn number was. Since the exact turn number might be altered slightly by who kicks or receives in the make-up game, it’s best to use the turn number of whichever team had taken the least amount of turns in the original game as the number that both coaches agree to use for the make-up game.
Once both coaches have agreed to the score and turn number for the make-up game the next step is to actually play the make-up game. Start the game over again. Once inside the game teamsĀ allow each other to make touchdowns until the score reaches the agreed upon number for both teams. During this time coaches should not engage in any blocking, dodging, or passing, and players should be positioned so they don’t get in the way of opposing players making the agreed upon touchdowns. On the drive that starts after the touchdown that puts the score to the agreed upon amount coaches should position their players as they would for normal play, and the kicking team should kick the ball like they would for normal play. Each coach must now use the “End Turn” button at the top of the game screen, and not move any players, to advance the turn counter until one team’s turn counter reaches the turn number agreed upon before the make-up game began. Once this happens normal play begins and coaches may now move, block, dodge, pass, etc. just as they would as normal for the rest of the game. If possible coaches should not use any players that were injured in the original match during this period.
After the game has been played the League Commissioner is able to assist players in getting this make-up match to match the original as much as possible. Both coaches need to agree on what injuries were inflicted in the original game and on what players, and which player originally made what scores. Luckily the replay can assist in this. When the game crashes or disconnects the replay is saved. Using the + and – keys on the numpad you can fast forward and slow down the replay. When a replay finishes it shows a breakdown of injuries inflicted, touchdowns, etc. Once the game has been finished and uploaded contact the league commissioner via email. One coach needs to send this email and they need to CC the opposing coach. The league commissioner will not make any changes until the opposing coach has replied all to this email to confirm to the league commissioner that they agree with the changes requested in the email. The email that is sent should contain the following information.
- A list of players to transfer touchdown credit.
- A list of additional completions
- A list of additional interceptions
- A list of additional casualties
- A copy of the replay for the disconnected match for the commissioner to review

Steps 6, 7, and 8: Commissioner Resolution
Steps 5, 6, and 7 are only needed if coaches involved in the match are unable to agree upon a score amount and a turn number, and are listed as a last resort if steps 1,2,3, and 4 have failed so far. Each coach is required to email a copy of the Match Report for the game, the same one you would normally use to report the game to the League Application, to the commissioner at commissioner@bashdl.com. In the email state you’re requesting resolution for a crash or disconnect and state what you believe the score for each team to be and what the turn number should have been. The commissioner will review each coaches email and make a ruling for the score and the turn number. Coaches are then required to play a make-up game for the match as described above for step 4. If for some reason after the ruling has been made one coach refuses to play the make-up game then the other coach may use a challenge to press the issue. This challenge will not count against that coach’s allowed challenges. If the challenge is refused then the league commissioner will report the game as an abandoned match. A match report will be submitted where the score for each team will be set to the number decided in step 6 and then the team refusing the challenge will abandon the match, with SPPs and MVPs awarded accordingly.
